Your visit to Amboseli gives you a good view of Mt. Kilimanjaro the highest Peak of Africa, which forms the backdrop to the Park, a sight to behold.
The name Amboseli is a Maasai word derived from the words Salty Dust. This the home of the African Elephant. Free roaming elephant families dot the park with Mt.
Kilimanjaro standing majestically at the background. Other wildlife in the park include; over 600 bird species, Leopard, Cheetah, Wild dogs, Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Lion, Crocodile, Mongoose, Hyrax, Dik- dik, Lesser Kudu, and Nocturnal Porcupine. Amboseli National park attracts rainfall of between 200mm – 700mm and a temperature range of 20 to 30 degrees centigrades.
It therefore can be accessed all year round. Activities at the park include; Game viewing, camping, birding, nature walks and Maasai Village visits. The Park is located approximately 240km from Nairobi and is accessible using Nairobi – Arusha rd via Namanga town.
It can as well be accessed using Nairobi – Mombasa Rd via Emali town which is approximately 228km. By Air, Amboseli National Pak is served by one airstrip but can still be by airstrips at Namanga and Kilimanjaro Buffalo Lodge.
